Celtic Eyes Kasper Schmeichel, Posing Challenge for Tobi Oluwayemi

Tobi Oluwayemi, the London born Nigerian goalkeeper, is likely to face a setback in his standing at Celtic as the Scottish Premiership champions are reportedly eyeing a move for 105 cap Denmark international, Kasper Schmeichel. This interest follows the retirement of ex England star Joe Hart at the end of the 2023-2024 season.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers, who previously worked with Schmeichel at Leicester City, is keen on a reunion. Under Rodgers' management, Schmeichel recorded 44 clean sheets in 155 appearances across all competitions. Rodgers is currently assessing Oluwayemi during the early pre season to decide whether to keep him in the first team or loan him out for the third time.

Oluwayemi participated in Celtic's initial pre season matches against Ayr United and Queen's Park. At present, he ranks behind Benjamin Siegrist and Scott Bain in the goalkeeper hierarchy at Celtic Park, but Siegrist is seeking a move away from the club. Oluwayemi impressed during his loan spell at Admira Wacker, achieving five clean sheets in nine matches last season. He also received two call ups for Europa Conference League matches during the 2021-2022 season as a non playing substitute.

Editorial

Tobi Oluwayemi's potential demotion due to Celtic's pursuit of Kasper Schmeichel underscores the competitive nature of top flight football. As fans and analysts, we must recognize the challenges young players face in securing their positions, especially in clubs with high ambitions and strong financial backing.

Oluwayemi's impressive performances during his loan at Admira Wacker highlight his potential. However, the possible arrival of a seasoned goalkeeper like Schmeichel could limit his opportunities.
