NYSA Pauses Emeka Anyaoku U16 Tournament Amid Nationwide Protests

The National Youth Soccer Association NYSA has temporarily halted the 16th edition of the Inter States Emeka Anyaoku U16 football tournament due to nationwide protests that began on Thursday, August 1, 2024. The tournament is set to resume on Saturday, August 17, 2024, across six geopolitical zones.

NYSA Publicity Secretary Ifeanyi Chukwudi emphasized that the decision to pause the tournament was made to ensure the safety of players, coaches, and officials amidst the ongoing unrest. The safety of the players, coaches, and match officials is paramount to us, he stated.

The tournament, organized by the NYSA and supported by former Commonwealth Secretary General Chief Emeka Anyaoku, kicked off last week. Chukwudi assured participants that the tournament would proceed as scheduled after the postponement and expressed regret for any inconvenience caused. He also highlighted the continued support of Chief Emeka Anyaoku, who is passionate about youth and football development.
